CPD

Professional development and you

Continuing professional development (CPD) is fundamental to today’s business environment and is essential to your continued effectiveness and development in the world of project management.

At its very basic level, CPD exists to ensure that you have the breadth of knowledge and the skills base to practice in your field and it marks your personal commitment to self-improvement. It also demonstrates your commitment to lifelong learning in a rapidly changing environment.

How CPD benefits you

Your ongoing development is important and maintaining your CPD helps you acquire the qualities and skills required throughout your professional life. Undertaking and recording your CPD activities highlights and strengthens your professional credibility and documents your advancement in project management.

CPD is a commitment to your career and profession and can help you:

  • accelerate your career development
  • increase your earning potential
  • tackle new challenges
  • increase your job satisfaction.

Whether you are just starting out or an established project manager, APM works to support and provide you with the resources to discover and follow your career path. Click here to view CPD opportunities.

Your CPD obligation

As a project management professional you are obliged to complete 35 hours of CPD activities each year and should undertake the following:

  • an initial review – identify current and future needs in your project management competence
  • set specific objectives for the forthcoming year
  • plan different activities to support your development
  • record them on your APM Professional Portfolio Log

Stand out from the crowd

Your professional portfolio is a signal to employers (current and future) that you are up to date with industry developments and current practice.

APM’s Professional Portfolio provides:

  • easy assessment against the APM Competence Framework
  • simple identification of knowledge gaps
  • a planned and structured approach to the maintenance and acquisition of new skills
  • a tangible product to showcase your strengths, learning and achievements.

By following the APM Professional Portfolio process you will build your CPD records into a showcase of your professional development, demonstrating your strengths, highlighting your track record and illustrating your commitment to your profession.
